A group named Critical Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara, has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari and the party’s leadership to save it from imminent destruction in the state.
Leader of the group, Mr Akogun Oyedepo made the appeal on Wednesday in Abuja while briefing newsmen at the APC national secretariat.
He accused the Gov. Mai Mala Buni-led APC Caretaker and Extra-Ordinary Convention Planning Committee of instigating crisis in the Kwara APC chapter over its decision to remove the state party chairman, Bashir Bolarinwa.
“Firstly, we appeal to President Muhammadu Buhari to save the party from the imminent destruction that this decision can engender in Kwara.
“We also appeal to the leaders of integrity and goodwill in the party to save it from this deliberate journey to political perdition.
“We appeal to our teeming supporters for calm, they should remain steadfast, resolute and continue to support this historical cause once again,” he said, adding that it is not over, until it is finally over.
He noted that the only reason adduced by the Sanni Bello Committee for the purported removal of the Kwara APC chairman was the inability of the state governor to work with him.
The group leader said it was ironic that a person that the governor could not work with had been recommended to be made a commissioner, wondering where the logic for his removal was.
According to Oyedepo, the APC leadership acted on the recommendation to remove the Kwara chairman without the required consultations.
“We have resolved to reject the verdict of the National Caretaker Committee on the purported removal of Bashir Omolaja Bolarinwa.
“It is worth nothing more than the value of the paper on which the letter given to Hon Sanmari Abdulahi is written.
“It certainly shall not work in Kwara no matter who is behind it. Though when we told the secretary that the decision could sink the party in the state, he said they really do not care.
“He repeated during the conversation more than five times that he was acting under the instructions of the Chairman of the APC caretaker committee, Mai Mala Buni,” he said.
Oyedepo said the group shall prove to those that aborted the peoples’ revolution foisting on the party the present situation since 2018 that Kwara was not an appendage of any outside power conspiracy.
According to him, such persons had continue to compromise the noble cause of the party’s critical stakeholders with unacceptable decisions.
He accused Gov. Abdurahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara of running a solo government after winning election, saying that he had not been humble with power.
He added that the governor runs the party and government without consultation with critical stakeholders in the state.
According to him, it is a mis-normal to say the governor is the leader of the party in a state, especially since this is not written in the party’s Constitution.
Oyedepo added that the state critical stakeholders fought the war to ensure that Abdulrazaq became the Kwara governor.
He further added that if:” they were able to bring down an Iroko tree, it will not take them anything to bring down its shrub”.
Oyedepo said the group had explored all opportunities to ensure peace in Kwara, including meeting with the state governor and the party’s leadership without success
