In a collaborative effort, operatives of the Kwara State Police Command and the Nigerian Army Forward Operation Base (FOB) in Egbe, Kogi State, have arrested a notorious kidnapper, Mohammed Bello, popularly known as Dandolo.

The arrest followed actionable intelligence indicating that Bello, wanted for his involvement in multiple kidnapping operations in Kogi State, had fled to Patigi in Kwara State to evade capture.

Confirming the development in a statement on Thursday, the spokesperson of the Kwara State Police Command, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, revealed that the suspect was tracked and apprehended after an extensive surveillance operation.

“Upon receiving the intelligence from Egbe, Kogi State, the command immediately deployed a surveillance team to monitor the suspect’s movements,” Ejire-Adeyemi said.

She explained that the operation involved a thorough search of various locations in Patigi, including hotels, and concluded with Bello’s capture at an undisclosed location.

The joint operation, coordinated with the Nigerian Army FOB team led by Lieutenant Isah, reinforces the ongoing collaboration between security agencies in combating crime.

Bello has since been handed over to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Ilorin for further investigation.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), the suspect has confessed to his involvement in multiple kidnapping incidents, including those along the Omu-Aran-Ilofa-Osi-Eruku-Egbe road in Kwara State and the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The Commissioner of Police in Kwara State, Victor Olaiya, assured the public of a thorough investigation to ensure that justice is served. “The command remains unwavering in its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of residents in Kwara State and surrounding areas,” he said.

Olaiya also expressed gratitude to members of the public and security partners for their cooperation, urging citizens to continue providing timely information to aid in the fight against crime.
