The evicted Sarkin Fulani of Oyo State, Alhaji Salihu Abdulkadir has been summoned to Abuja by the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami over last Sunday’s mayhem in Igangan, Oyo State where many lives were lost.
The Minister’s invitation according to sources very close the Sarkin is on the heels of a petition by an international human rights organisation to the justice minister. The sources confirmed that Alhaji Abdulkadir was on his way to Abuja Tuesday morning to honour the minister’s invitation.
Igangan, in Ibarapa local government of the state came under a night attack on Sunday where the assailants left several persons dead and properties, including the monarch’s residence were razed. The attack was allegedly carried out by suspected herdsmen between 11.p.m and 3a.m. who were said to be carrying out a reprisal.
The Fulanis including their leader, Salihu Abdulkadir were early this year forcefully sent away from the area by aggrieved Yoruba group following allegations of kidnapping, rape, murder, destruction farms and other crimes. The group was led by Sunday ‘Igboho’ Adeyemo. The Sarkin Fulani was particularly accused of masterminding the crimes. His house and other properties worth millions of naira were burn in Igangan.
Alhaji Abdulkadir had in several interviews denied the allegations. In an interview with the Midlandpost, the Sarkin had insisted that he was innocent of all the allegations levelled against him arguing that he had rather assisted the police to apprehend kidnappers in the community.
He also accused indigenes of the community of being the masterminds in connivance with some politicians.
