Three police officers have been detained in connection with the alleged murder of Abdulqoyyum Abdulyekeen Ishola, a National Diploma (ND) 2 student of Electronic Engineering at Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin. The tragic incident occurred on September 4, 2024, in the GRA area of Ilorin.

The detained officers, identified as Abiodun Kayode, Inspector James Emmanuel, and Sergeant Oni Philip, are attached to the Department of Operations at the Kwara State Police Command. They were implicated in the shooting of the 22-year-old student during an altercation, leading to his death.

A memo from the office of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, referenced CZ.5300/FpRD/FHQ/ABJ/Voll.6/230, dated September 9, 2024, confirmed that the IGP had ordered the Homicide section of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Abuja, to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident. The officers have since been taken into custody to facilitate the investigation.

In a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IGP expressed deep sorrow over the death of Abdulqoyyum Ishola. "The Inspector-General of Police is deeply saddened by the unfortunate loss of a young Nigerian and extends his heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased," the statement read.

The IGP assured the public that the investigation will be swift and transparent, with justice served in due course. The family of the deceased has been reassured that the force is committed to holding those responsible accountable for their actions
