Five Kwarans distinguished themselves in the 2023 promotion exercise of the Police Service Commission as three of them moved from Commissioners of Police to the next rank of Assistant Inspectors General of Police, AIG, while two got promotion to substantive Commissioners of Police from their Deputy Commissioners of Police positions.

Yekini Adio Ayoku, Commissioner of Police Kaduna state Command, Babatunde Babata Ishola, Director Staff College Jos and Oyediran Adesoye Oyeyemi, Commissioner of Police, Ondo Command were among the 24 names in the list of the new AIGs.

Salman Dogo Garba and Mr. Adegbola Aina both made the list of 33 officers promoted to the rank of Commissioner of Police.

Ayoku, Ishola and Salman are all indigenes of the Ilorin Emirate while Oyediran and Adegbola are from Kwara South. Oyediran is specifically from Igosun in Oyun Local Government.

Rejoicing with the officers, the state Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq said it was exciting to have the distinguished Kwara-born officers moving steadily to the peak of their career with records of excellent service to the Nigerian state and its people.

 In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaiye, the Governor congratulated “the top cops and their families on the deserving elevation.

“These elevations again portray our state in a good light, and I pray God to guide these police officers — and many others like them — as they continue to be great ambassadors of Kwara State and its people.”

The Emir of Ilorin and Chairman Kwara State Council of Chiefs, Mai-Martaba Alhaji (Dr) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari described the newly promoted officers as worthy ambassadors of the Ilorin emirate and state at large.

In a congratulatory message issued by his spokesman, Mallam Abdulazeez Arowona, the Emir expressed joy over the elevation of the officers and prayed for Allah’s guidance and absolute protection for the newly promoted senior police officers across the countr

The Emir’s letter reads in part: On behalf of the entire members of the Kwara State Council of Chiefs, I express joy on your promotion.

 “Your excellent performances, commitments and dedication to duty in the areas of national security has further led to your upliftment among many others. I implore you to rededicate yourself to the protection of lives and property in the nation.

“You are also expected to always provide valuable inputs that will further become veritable policy frameworks for the actualization of peaceful coexistence among the people of Nigeria.”

The monarch however prayed for Allah’s guidance and absolute protection for the newly promoted senior police officers across the country in order to continue to soar higher in their meritorious service to the nation.

Oyediran’s community, Igosun has been particularly on the upbeat since the announcement of the elevation of their son. Sheriff Oyewole, the Assistant Secretary of the Ilorin branch of Igosun Descendants Union, IDPU while announcing the development to the community wrote: “I have the honour and privilege to announce to us the elevation of our very distinguished son of the soil, Commissioner of Police, Yemi Jimoh Oyediran to the exalted rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police.

“The IDPU Ilorin branch is elated and feel very proud while rejoicing with you on this great feat.

“We congratulate you and wish you well as you wear this very exalted rank of the Assistant Inspector General of Police. The statement read.
