The Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion Bishop Rt Revd Oluwaseun Aderogba of Jebba Diocese, his wife, a technologist in the Department of Crop Protection, University of Ilorin and their driver were on Sunday evening kidnapped by unknown gunmen along Ogbomoso/ Oyo road.
Their abductors, in hours, demanded N50m ransom.
The couple and a chaplain were travelling from Jebba to Oyo when their vehicle developed a fault a few kilometres to their destination. Their assailants pounced on them on the spot.
According to newspot.ng, the Chaplain, who escaped by the whiskers narrated the incident thus:
” We were travelling from Jebba to Oyo when it was few kilometers to Oyo our vehicle developed a fault. My Lord Bishop called the Lord bishop of Oyo Bishop Aladekugbe for help. However, before the help surfaced some men armed men surrounded them and ordered them into the bush. I was lucky I was not visible because of my black cassock I fell flat on my belly to hide myself while they marched my bishop and wife deep into the forest”.
Newspot.ng reported that the Bishop of Oyo “rose to the occasion to alert the Leadership of the church Most Revd Henry Ndukuba and other members of the house of bishops.
“It took hours to hear from the abductors through the wife of the bishop whom they allowed to speak in few seconds with one of the bishops asking for N50m ransom.
It was also reported that negotiations were ongoing as at 11.35 pm.
