An Upper Area Court, sitting in Kasuwan Nama in Jos, on Thursday, sentenced a 25-year-old businessman, Daniel John, to two years in a correctional centre for conspiracy and stealing.
The Judge, Lawal Suleiman, sentenced the convict, following his guilty plea after he was charged with stealing three pairs of jeans valued at N15000.
Suleiman, however, gave the convict an option to either pay N50,000 or spend two years in a correctional centre.
He said the sentence would serve as deterrent to those who would want to indulge in such criminal act of stealing in the future.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. Ibrahim Gokwat told the court that the case was reported at the Laranto Police station on Aug. 4 by the complainant, one Adam Musa of Agwan Rimi Jos.
Gokwat said that the defendant conspired with his friend, now at large, and entered into the complainant’s boutique shop and stole three pairs of jeans trouser.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened sections 59 and 272 of the Penal Code of Plateau State
