The Kwara House of Assembly Speaker, Mr Yakubu Salihu, has praised the initiative of the Etsu Patigi, Alhaji Ibrahim Umar Bologi II, for setting up the Patigi Education Trust Fund.

The Speaker spoke on Monday at the 2023 Nko Salah gathering in the Patigi Local Government Area of the state, describing the initiative as a novel that is capable of supporting government’s ongoing efforts in the area of educational revolution in the state.

“I would like to commend Your Royal Highness for thinking ahead of other local government areas in Kwara North to put up this initiative to help our children.

“As the Vice Chairman, Kwara State Traditional Council, I want to appeal to your Highness to sell the idea to other traditional rulers so that it could spread across the state inorder to complement the effort of the present administration,” he said.

The speaker said Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara has invested so much in the education sector during his first term in office.

“When the governor came on board for a second term in office, he has sent the executive bill – Kwara State Educational Trust Fund to the House of Assembly, which is currently receiving legislative attention.

“I want to assure you of the commitment of Gov. AbdulRazaq to sustain the heavy investment made in education in this second tenure in office as he did during his first term,” he said.

Earlier, the Etsu Patigi, Alhaji Bologi II, explained that the rationale behind the trust fund was to complement government’s educational reform in the state by supporting less privileged members of the community from primary schools to higher institutions by providing them with scholarship and other learning materials.

The highlights of the programme included the foundation laying of Patigi Community Radio Station; a computer-based test centre; the conferment of traditional chieftaincy titles and cultural displays.
