A devastating fire outbreak late Friday night completely razed a twin 3-bedroom flat located off Sunnie Ododo Street, Tanke, Ilorin, leaving the affected families in distress as they lost all their belongings.

The building, according to neighbours belongs to one Engr Adeoye Samuel.

The Kwara State Fire Service, alerted at 11:33 PM, dispatched its crew to the scene, where they battled the inferno with guts and professionalism despite the delayed call.

According to the Kwara Fire Service, the blaze was caused by a power surge. The flames consumed not only the main building but also three rooms in the boys' quarters.

In a statement, the Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John, expressed sympathy for the affected families and emphasized the importance of adhering to fire safety and electrical precautions.

“We urge the public to report fire emergencies promptly to minimize losses,” he stated, while providing the service’s emergency hotlines: 08030419316, 112, and 08025896740.

The chairman of the local community association, Engr. Amosa, called on the government and well-meaning individuals to provide support for the displaced families during this challenging time.

Neighbours and sympathisers gathered at the site of the incident on Saturday morning to console the victims, who remain distraught by their loss. The fire service reminded residents of the importance of preventive measures and timely response to emergencies.
