The Integrity Group of Kwara state All Progressives Congress party, has warned the national leadership of the party to ensure justice is served in the intra-party crisis in the state.
At a press conference in Ilorin at the weekend,, spokesman of the group, Comrade Abdulrahoof Bello, declared that " The corporate existence of our party might be in jeopardy" if justice is not seen to have been done.
"Much as we appreciate the disposition of the national headquarters to our plights in Kwara state, we appeal to their conscience that justice must not only be done but must be seen to have been done, otherwise, the corporate existence of our party might be in jeopardy", the group warned, adding that without justice, there can be no progress.
The group demanded among others, the custody of fresh materials for the revalidation and registration exercise in the state, alleging that the governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq's group made a total mess of the last exercise in the state.
It said many prospective members were shut out, the existing family members were deliberately blackened out of the exercise, which necessitated complaints lodged by the Legacy group of the party in the state to the national leadership.
The Integrity Group further rejected the idea of consensus for the party congresses in the state, saying it is ready for direct congresses immediately after the registration and revalidation exercise. "We are not and shall not be part of the unilateral "consensus" arrangement being proposed by the Governor's group.
"The beauty of democracy is in allowing minority to have their say, even when majority have their way. The only civilized way to prove our numerical values is through congresses, not by any proxy," it added.
The group traced the genesis of the intra-party crisis in the state to August 2019, when the governor complained that the party leadership in the state did not avail him with campaign funds and cars donated during his electioneering campaign.
"A 7-man committe of elders was set up comprising Alhaji L.A.K. Jimoh, Attairu Manko, Alhaji I A.Jimoh, Alhaji Adebayo Adisa, Alhaji Isa Afon, Hassan Salami (of blessed memory) and Barrister Iyiola Oyedepo, to interface with the state governor and commence the process of reconciliation.
"It was at this meeting, the first and only till date, that the governor indeed came up with the issue that party leadership did not avail him with campaign funds and cars, during his electioneering campaign. " But in the spirit of genuine reconciliation, the elders made it clear to the governor that even if he had handled all the monies and materials as he demanded, he could not have achieved more than the victory already secured.
"What was therefore expected after the meeting, was that the governor would bring everyone together in the spirit of good governance and true reconciliation, but this was not to be," the group lamented.
"With regret, it has become an open secret that our governing party in this state is critically ill, lying in the operation theatre for surgery.
"Regrettably still, the chief medical director, is contemplating "Mercy Killing" by withholding extreme medical measures rather than providing life support for the patient," it further stated.
