The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) at the Federal Polytechnic Offa in Kwara State has expressed grave concern over the deteriorating conditions at the institution.

The union highlighted severe infrastructural decay and accused the management of neglecting their responsibilities.

In a statement released by Dr. Idowu Atilola, Chairman of the ASUP Federal Poly Offa branch, the union criticized the leadership of the polytechnic for failing to address critical issues, leading to the current deplorable state of the institution.

Dr. Atilola emphasised that continued inaction by the management would force the union to take drastic measures.

“The union is embarrassed to announce the continued despicable state of our institution as is evidenced in the recent shameful disconnection by PHCN due to non-payment, pitiable state of infrastructural facilities, school environment being likened to a Guinea Savanna (that is now host to animals), consistent absence of Rector, Bursar, and Registrar, among other issues,” the statement read.

The union warned that the ongoing neglect and mismanagement had rendered the school unfit for academic activities and posed a significant threat to the well-being of both staff and students. The statement underscored the union's frustration with the management's lack of accountability and their tendency to shirk responsibilities.

In addition to infrastructure concerns, the union condemned what it described as incompetence and malpractice within the registry department. Specific allegations included failure to uphold union agreements, improper record-keeping, and the dissemination of false information to undermine staff.

“We are calling on the management as a matter of urgency to have a holistic review of registry operations or more drastic steps will be taken in no distant time,” the statement concluded.

The union's call for immediate action underscores the critical need for improved management and accountability to restore the polytechnic to a suitable environment for education and professional development.
