Agege, Lagos — In a decisive move to promote public health and sustainable urban living, the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) has sealed a residential building in Agege due to its lack of proper toilet facilities.
The closure, announced by Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, is part of the state’s ongoing efforts to ensure sanitation standards and prevent health risks.
The sealed property, a bungalow located on Adedosu Street, Otubu, Agege, reportedly has over ten rooms but lacks any functional toilets, relying instead on decrepit, overflowing pit latrines.
According to Wahab, the building was shut down following complaints from residents concerned about the potential health risks posed by the unhygienic conditions.
“LSWMO, in a continued demonstration of its commitment to a sustainable environment, proper sanitation, and public health safety, has sealed off this property,” Wahab stated in a message on his official X account.
“With exposed fecal matter around the premises, we cannot risk the occurrence of another cholera outbreak.”
The operation was led by LSWMO General Manager, Mr. Adefemi Afolabi, who emphasised the importance of hygiene and sanitation standards for all residential properties in Lagos.
The commissioner called on all citizens to embrace clean and sustainable sanitation practices to support the state’s environmental goals.
