- Donates millions for varsity development

Former Senate President and the Baba Adini of Ansarul-Islam Society of Nigeria, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has pledged his total support towards the rapid growth of the newly founded Muhammad Kamalud-Deen University, Ilorin, in Kwara State.

To live up to his words, Dr. Saraki granted a four-year full scholarship to 100 students while also donating projects worth millions of naira towards the infrastructural development of the institution.

The Waziri Ngeri of Ilorin Emirate made the donation on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at the official commissioning of the private university owned by the Ansar-ul-Islam Society of Nigeria.

According to a statement in Ilorin, by his Press Officer on Local Matters, Abdulganiyu Abdulqadir, N140m was donated towards the four-year full scholarship of 100 student-beneficiaries while another donation of N26m was made to provide different facilities in the university.

Addressing attendees at the commissioning, Saraki said he was proud to identify with the university, which he said would bring honour and prestige to Ilorin and Kwara State as a whole.

He described the university project as a personal one to him because of its indigenous identity and his love and affinity with the initiator, the late Sheikh Muhammad Kamalud-Deen Al-Adabiy.

"As a bonafide son of Ilorin, Baba Adini of Ansarul Islam Society of Nigeria, and the Waziri Ngeri of Ilorin Emirate, this project is personal to me.

"This commissioning is a great project for every son and daughter of the Emirate not only for the Legacy of Sheikh Kamalud-Deen but for what we can do as the Ilorin Emirate community.

"As the Chairman of the occasion noted, this is not a profitable venture. It is a project for society, and that's why it's our project. That is why from 2005 when the idea of the University was muted I have been playing my role as I should",  he said.

He expressed appreciation to everyone who has played vital roles to ensure that the project saw the light of the day.

The Waziri Ngeri pledged to continue to play his role not only for the success of the citadel of learning but also as someone passionate about the growth and development of Ilorin and Kwara State.

The University was founded by the First Grand Mufti of Ilorin and founder of the Ansarul Islam Society of Nigeria, the late Sheikh Muhammad Kamalud-Deen Al-Adaby

Saraki commended the current Khalifa Adabiyy and Visitor to MKU, Ilorin, Sheikh Abdulkadir Muhammad Kamalud-Deen Al-Adabiy for his unrelenting effort towards ensuring that the University project becomes a reality.
