The management of Al-Hikmah University in Ilorin, Kwara State has refuted a newspaper’s report of unsavoury comment by the Kwara Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps FRSC, Fredrick Ogidan on the fuel subsidy removal at a function on its campus.

The university is seeking that the Daily Trust newspaper immediately make a refutal on the erroneous story, failing which it would resort to legal action.

A report by Premium Times said EFCC, on the thrust of the story carried by the Daily Trust replaced Ogidan with another officer barely 48 hours because his superiors perceived the comment to be critical of the federal government. 

Reacting to the newspaper’s report, the university in a statement on Friday said the report was a mis-representation and not a true reflection of what transpired at the event.

The statement in part, says the management’s “attention has been drawn to a story in the Daily Trust of Saturday, 11 November, 2023, which gives the impression that the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, Fredrick Ogidan made a derogatory remarks on the fuel subsidy.

“The Management of Al-Hikmah University wishes to state emphatically that the Sector Commander did not make any such remark at the event.

“To put the record straight, the University Management invited the Sector Commander and his officers to the University on Friday, 10th November, 2023, for the investiture of the Founder and Chairman, Board of Trustees, as Special Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps. This was in recognition of his immense contributions to the Corps and, more importantly, in ensuring zero accident along the recently constructed Al-Hikmah University Road through road safety advocacy.

“At the event, the Founder requested the Zonal Commander to increase the patrol of the University Road of which he assured the Founder that the Command would do its best to ensure more coverage, despite the constraints of fueling operational vehicles at times.

“We also need to clarify that neither the Founder nor the Sector Commander granted interview to the Press. Therefore, the story on the event from Daily Trust is purely a mis-representation, and, as such, not a true reflection of happenings at the event. All inconveniences to the directorate of the Federal Road Safety Corps is highly regretted.

“The Management of Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, therefore, requests for a refutal of this story by Daily Trust, failure of which we have to resort to legal action. The statement reads
