The Kwara state police command has confirmed that some unknown gunmen killed one mobile police officer and abducted a Chinese citizen on Thursday at the premises of a construction company along the Shao-Oloru expressway in Moro Local Government Area of Kwara state.

The suspected kidnappers, according to the police invaded the premises of CGC construction company, shot and killed Inspector Adebayo Adeforiti attached to mobile police, PMF 15, Ilorin who was on guard duty at the company and abducted  the Chinese National before escaping into the bush.

Midlandpost’s source said the gunmen burnt the car allegedly used in the operation.

The source also hinted that another police operative who was injured in the attack was receiving treatment at an undisclosed location.

Confirming the incident, the spokesman of the Kwara state police command, SP Okasanmi Ajayi, said "on receipt of the information, the Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Police Command, Tuesday Assayomo ordered an intense and discreet search, rescue and arrest operation into the matter with the deployment of the Command's Tactical teams, vigilante and local hunters into the area for possible rescue and arrest of the perpetrators"

He said the command would work round the clock to get the victim rescued and perpetrators apprehended”

"Meanwhile, the command is in a mourning mood over the killing of one of our operatives," he said.

He added that the people of Kwara State would be briefed accordingly as the police command progresses in its findings.
