Alhaji Mohammed Kawu, has emerged as the new Emir of Lafiagi Emirate Council, in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara state.

The state Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Architect Mohammed Aliyu Saifudeeen  confirmed the development in Ilorin on Wednesday night.Recall that the throne became vacant following the death of former Emir Alhaji Saadu Kawu Haliru, recently after about 46 years on the throne.

Late Emir Kawu Haliru, died at the age of 86, at the National Hospital in Abuja.

The new Emir has also been given his letter of appointment by the state government, our correspondent gathered.

Alhaji Kawu, is an accomplished banker and a successful private sector investor, a serial entrepreneur and a passionate community development advocate who used his network to facilitate opportunities for his people, towing the path of his late father Alhaji Abubakar Kawu who was reported to have used his influence to facilitate admission for indigenes especially from the old Lafiagi/Patigi Division at the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria

He is from AbdulKadir ruling house, one of the four ruling houses of Lafiagi Emirate. His maternal grandfather was one time Minister of Water Resources and Police Affairs, Alhaji Ndagi Mahmud Agaie, a second republic politician. he was until his appointment the Ubandoma of Lafiagi
