A group, the Ekiti Patriots, an assemblage of Ekiti State indigenes residing in Kwara State has chided the former Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi for what it described  as a cynical identification with the masses in the face of his stewardship, which it said was marred by actions that were not in the interest of the people.

In apparent reaction to a statement made by the former governor of Ekiti State at a book launch in Abuja, the group said it was disheartening and totally out of place for any political leader to stand as the champion of those very communities he or she had failed to protect and properly served  when he or she was given the opportunity.

In a statement signed by Mr. Olusegun Akinbode, President, Ekiti Patriots, the group accused Fayemi of making “several  public statements purporting to champion the interests of the people, while conveniently attempting to gloss over the shadow of alleged mismanagement that looms large over his previous tenure as governor of Ekiti State.

“The latest is his outburst at the book launch in Abuja  where he called on former Governor Ganduje who is now National Chairman of APC to call President Bola Tinubu’s attention to the suffering in the land.

“Fayemi’s self-serving attempt to portray himself  as a champion of the people stands in stark contrast to the reality experienced by the citizens of Ekiti State where he governed for eight solid years.

“It is a painful reminder of the betrayal of the public trust and the consequences of unchecked abuse of power.

While calling on citizens to always  demand accountability from people in government, to be  vigilant in their pursuit of justice and to continuously seek redress for any past injustices, the group said it would continue to advocate for transparency, good governance, and the equitable use of public resources.

"As Ekiti Patriots, we remain committed to upholding the values of integrity and ethical leadership for the betterment of our communities and the nation as a whole.

"The only thing that has kept us quiet till now is that Ekiti now has a Governor in the person of Governor Biodun Oyebanji, who is a gentleman, a unifier, kind and an Ekiti patriot who is responsive to the needs and aspirations of the people and has embarked on the tough process of rebuilding the state", the group said.
