Kwara State government has clarified why Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq’s name was missing on the initial list of the Northern Governors who appended their signatures to the resolution of Northern leaders on Power Shift to Southern Nigeria.

Government said the Governor was from the beginning, fully part of the meeting and resolution of the Northern leaders that the next President should come from the Southern part of the country and duly signed a copy of the resolution before it was presented to the President.

Governors of northern states in the ruling All Progressives Congress had met Saturday night to take a position on the frosty issue of power rotation as the party prepares for its convention and electing a  successor to President Mohammed Buhari

After its meeting, the governors came out with a statement that it would be fair and just to rotate power to the southern part of the country after the end of the tenure of President Muhammadu Buhari on May 29, 2023.

“After careful deliberation, we wish to state our firm conviction that after eight years in the office of President Muhammadu Buhari, the presidential candidate of the APC for the 2023 elections should be one of our teeming members from the southern states of Nigeria,” the governors said in a joint statement.

“It is a question of honour for the APC, an obligation that is not in any way affected by the decisions taken by another political party. We affirm that upholding this principle is in the interest of building a stronger, more united and more progressive country.”

However, when the statement surfaced in the public it was signed by the governors of Katsina, Niger, Nasarawa, Borno, Katsina, Gombe, Zamfara, Plateau, Kano and Kebbi states and former Sokoto State governor Senator Aliyu Wamakko.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s signature was copiously missing.

Clarifying what transpired and the position of the governor, his Special Assistant on Political Communications, Alhaji Bashir Adigun in a statement said “the Governor was ab initio fully part of the meeting and resolution of the Northern leaders that the next President should come from the Southern part of the country.

“The Governor could not immediately sign the resolution of the meeting because he was at his niece's wedding held on Saturday Ju4, 2022022 where he was the Chief Host.

"Governor AbdulRazaq’s Northern colleagues were thus unable to wait for his physical signature on the resolution because they needed to send it to the President immediately.

“The final copy of the resolution was however brought to him later and he became the 12th signatory to the resolution.

To corroborate his statement, Adigun gave a copy of the final list of the 12 Northern Governors, including Governor AbdulRahanan AbdulRazaq endorsing the Southern Presidency in 2023
