The Chairman of the Caretaker Committee All Progressives Congress Abdullahi Samari has affirmed that some chieftains of the party termed agent of distabilisation may face suspension if found culpable in the various allegations levied against them.
The State Governor, Abdulrasaq Abdulrahman at a function on Sunday had warned that some members of the party risked suspension from the party for fanning the embers of dissafection.
He told the gathering: “It has come to our notice that some people are hatching plots from Abuja to stop APC membership registration. They went to court to challenge the process when it has already begun. This was designed to frustrate the exercise, but we are unperturbed.
“However, we need to sound a note of warning that those fanning the ember of disaffection in our party risk suspension. The APC leadership will take decisive action on them tomorrow (today) so that our people can have rest of mind.
But contrary to the Governors 'Abuja plot', some youths of the party under the aegis of the Concerned APC Youth Stakeholders in the state capital have dragged the chairman of the membership registration and revalidation committee Senator John Danboyi restraining the committee from embarking on the membership registration exercise scheduled to commence today.
In a suit number UACG/cv/20/2021, filed in an Upper Area Court of Kwara state, in the Ganmo judicial division on Monday, February 8, 2021, the group averred that the registration exercise planned for Tuesday, February 9, 2021, by the APC, is singlehandedly planned by only a faction of the four groups that made up the party in the state.
Also joined in the suit is the state Caretaker Committee Chair Alhaji Abdullahi Samari.
But Alhaji Samari said as the chairman of the party in the state he is yet to be served any court injunction to that effect.
Samari revealed that the exercise would go on as planned.
Alhaji Samari at a press conference said that “people are urged to be peaceful and orderly. The party sees no reason why anyone should deploy violence or resort to self-help in the exercise. Every willing person will be registered.
He added that the exercise would take place across 1,872 polling units of the state, saying that the exercise would take place across all the 16 local government areas of the state.
He said: “I use this medium to condemn in the strongest terms possible the reported incident of violence in parts of Edu local government today, even as we await full briefings on what truly happened.
Violence, under whatever guise, is unacceptable. We call on the security agencies to promptly arrest and prosecute anyone involved in unleashing violence on the people. Just as the Governor has rightly noted, there is no basis for anyone resorting to violence as no one would be excluded.
