Kwarans from across the globe can now receive their local news and entertainment broadcast on the State television signals delivered by satellite.
A statement by Yinka Fafoluyi, the Special Assistant to the State Governor on New Media said the station is transmitted on BADR-7 SATELLITE. This is the satellite that hosts most African stations, including AIT, Niger TV, Joy, Ghana TV and Channels Television.
Announcing the development, Fafoluyi said “The AbdulRazaq-led administration in Kwara state continues to break new ground in its effort to reposition all State-Owned Media outlets.
“For the first time in the history of Kwara State Television Authority (Kwara TV) the station is now on satellite thanks to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq whose foresight has seen the Television Station rise within three years after many years in a deplorable state of infrastructure and workforce”
The station had in February begun a 24-hour transmission with a ceremony where the governor turned on a switch to direct the new development. He informed of the huge investment the state has made on the station and described the event as another milestone that would be built upon with the massive deployment of modern technology, local content, and rich Human Resources available in the state.
“Today, history is again being made as we are not only breathing life back to Kwara TV but we are also graduating it to 24-hour broadcast. Kwara TV is one of the legacies of the founding fathers of this state. Like many of such institutions, Kwara TV gradually decayed. Like Radio Kwara did. Today we are proud to have Radio Kwara leading the pack in the state with 24-hour broadcast,” Abdulrazaq said.
Kwara TV was established by former Governor Shaba Lafiaji about 28 years ago after initial planning by his predecessors. It began full transmission on Wednesday, March 12, 1997, with the setting up of a pioneering management team led by Modibbo Ishaq Kawu.
