Ilorin, Kwara State capital will be agog on Friday as the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, governors and other dignitaries are expected to grace the turbaning of Dr Alimi AbdulRazaq as the new Mutawali of Ilorin.
The event will hold at the palace of the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu Gambari, at 11am.Alimi, who is the eldest brother of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, is succeeding his father, Alhaji AbdulGaniyu Folorunsho AbdulRazaq (SAN), on the honorary chieftaincy title.
A.G.F AbdulRazaq as fondly called, who died in July 2020, was the first holder of the title in the history of the ancient town.
The Chairman, Central Working Committee, CWC, of the turbaning ceremony, Dr Yusuf Lawal, at an interactive session with newsmen to herald the event in Ilorin on yesterday, said arrangement has been concluded to have a hitch free ceremony.
He informed that the committee had secured the commitment of many personalities to make the ceremony memorable.
“Dignitaries such as former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Vice President Osinbajo, governors and others within and outside the country have been invited to felicitate with us. We have assurance that some of them would grace the event”, Lawal said.
He described the title bestowed on AbdulRazaq as a call to service and particularly the Ilorin community, adding that the honoree is ready to take up the responsibility.
The CWC chairman maintained that though the title of Mutawali remains honorary, the AbdulRazaq family received with pleasure, the decision of the emir of Ilorin like others before him in to honour Alimi to succeed his late father as the custodian of emirate’s treasure.
He noted that the honorary title holder was expected to use his influence to attract development to the community.
