Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara has called on Nigerians, particularly the Muslim faithful, to embody the lessons of Prophet Muhammad’s Hijrah (migration) from Makkah to Medina in their daily conduct.
Speaking at the 2024 Hijrah celebration (1446AH) organized by the Hijrah Islamic Organisation in Ilorin, Governor AbdulRazaq, represented by his Senior Special Adviser, Alhaji Saadu Salahudeen, urged Muslims to reflect on these lessons in their interactions with both Muslims and non-Muslims. “We must allow the teachings of Hijrah to guide our daily lives and relationships, following the example set by Prophet Muhammad,” he emphasised.
The governor encouraged Muslims to use the occasion to visit the sick, support family members in distress, and show kindness to one another as brothers. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to public welfare: "Though government decisions may seem tough, they are made with the best interest of society in mind.”
Governor AbdulRazaq also urged Nigerians to support President Bola Tinubu’s administration and its Renewed Hope Agenda. He announced that Monday would be a work-free day in Kwara to honour the significance of Hijrah. “This public holiday acknowledges your right to pursue spiritual growth and happiness,” he said, urging continued support for his administration and the federal government.
In his sermon, Sheikh AbdulMumin Ayara, the National Missioner of the Ansarul Islam Society of Nigeria, condemned traders' arbitrary increase in food prices and other commodities, attributing it to inflation and exchange rates. He urged traders to have fear of Allah, reminding them that they would be accountable for their actions in the hereafter.
Earlier, Prof. Badmas Yusuf, Chairman of the Hijrah Islamic Organisation, called on the government to encourage more foreign investments and implement policies focusing on economic diversification.
