An Area Court sitting in Center-Igboro, Ilorin has dissolved the marriage between AbdulGaniyu Yahya and Hafsa AbdulGaniyu, advising that the woman should observe the three-month ‘Iddah’ period before she could marry again.
The couple had four children.
The presiding Judge, Hammad Ajumobi, dissolved the union after the two parties could not settle out of court.
He ordered that the petitioner, Hafsa, should observe the three-month Islamic ‘Iddah’ period before she could marry again to ensure that she was not carrying a pregnancy for her former husband.
The court granted the petitioner custody of the four children but ordered that the respondent should be responsible for their school fees, upkeep and feeding.
Earlier, the petitioner had told the court that the respondent was not a responsible man, alleging that he did not provide the needs of the family.
“Despite pleas by this court, the respondent has refused to change. He does not provide anything for the home,” she claimed. (NAN)
