The Kwara State Police Command said it has rescued four of the six victims kidnapped by armed bandits along Obbo-Ile/Osi road in the late hours of Monday.

The victims, according to police accounts were travelling on the route in a Hummer bus with registration number Abuja KUJ 613 AA when they were ambushed by five armed bandits at about 11pm, between Obbo-Ile and Osi town in Ekiti Local Government of Kwara State.

Okasanmi Ajayi, the Kwara State’s Police Public Relations Officer said the command was notified in the morning of Tuesday.

“On receipt of the information, detachments of conventional policemen, tactical teams, Vigilante and hunters were immediately dispatched to the area for possible search, rescue and arrest of the suspects” He said.

“Consequently, the victims’ vehicle, loaded with foodstuffs was found abandoned, inside of which was recovered an empty shell of 7.62mm ammunition.

“The intensity of the pressure during the search and rescue efforts led to the abandoning of four of the abductees who have now been rescued and presently with the police.

He further explained that the police believed that the kidnappers were still in the around bushes with the two remaining victims, promising that they would soon be smoked out and arrested.

The State Commissioner of Police, Tuesday Assayomo, according to Okasanmi, has assured the families of the yet to be released victims that no stone would be left unturned in rescuing the remaining victims still in the custody of the kidnappers.

He further advised commuters to avoid night journeys, especially on isolated roads
