Some thugs in the Ajao Estate area of Lagos, on Tuesday, attacked officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA) after a commercial bus driver set himself ablaze to stop his vehicle from being impounded.
The driver, who was stopped for allegedly violating a traffic law, was said to have doused himself with fuel and set himself ablaze when his pleadings fell on deaf ears.
According to eyewitnesses, the commercial bus driver grabbed a Jerry can be filled with petrol that was in the bus, emptied its content on himself, took a lighter from his pocket, and set himself ablaze.
This drew the attention of other commercial drivers who attacked the LASTMA officials with stones.
The drivers were joined by thugs who chased and attacked the LASTMA officials leaving commuters and private car owners running for safety.
Another eyewitness confirmed that the driver was rushed to a nearby hospital.
