The Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ilorin, Prof. Gbolagade Benjamin Adesiji, has said that the that the Department of Home Economics and Food Science has been able to merge the indigenous culture with western knowledge which gives rise to high standard of productivity.

 Prof. Adesiji said this during the exhibition of creative products by students of the Department.

 The Dean directed the Department to get a spot on campus to showcase its products as a start-up plan to be extended to the University entrance gate in future so as to intimate those outside the University community of the ability and capability of the students of the Department.

 The Professor of Agric Extension charged both staff and students of the department to think outside the box and consider the conversion of natural products into complex and civilized utilities, such as converting locust beans into cubes, for easy storage.

Prof . Adesiji told the students, “What you appreciate will not depreciate”, charging them to always conduct researches so as to produce quality and enduring products.

Also speaking at the event, the Head of the Department of Home Economics and Food Science, Dr. Fausat L. Kolawole, disclosed that the Department has started postgraduate programmes, adding that the major objective of the Home Economics programme is to train students in the development, use and management of material resources to foster individual and national development.

Dr. Kolawole added that the Food Science programme aims at enhancing food and nutrition security through innovative research.
