A Kwara based NGO, the Centre for Community Empowerment and Poverty Eradication (CCEPE) has distributed food items to 180 vulnerable people in Asa and Kaiama Local Government Areas.
The palliatives were donated, in partnership with the ActionAid Nigeria, to cushion the effect of the outbreak of coronavirus.
Ten people received food items in each of the 18 communities.
Addressing the beneficiaries, Mr Abdulrahman Ayuba, Senior Programme Officer of CCEPE, said that the distribution was to reduce hardship caused by the outbreak of COVID-19.
This, Ayoba said, was a follow up to the early sensitisation visit to the communities on the spread of the virus.
According to him, the beneficiaries were carefully selected to reflect the vulnerability and those seriously hit by the effect of the pandemic.
He urged the residents of the communities to always observe the protocols in the fight against the deadly virus.
He advised the people, never to see the ease of the lockdown as an end to the pandemic.
He further explained that the lockdown was lifted to alleviate the hardship with the movement restriction.
Ayuba enjoined the people to restrict their movement except there was a cogent reason to embark on a journey.
Each beneficiary got 10kg bag of rice and 5kg of semovita.
In their remarks, the representatives of the two local government councils, Hajia Bukola Mohammed, Public Relations Officer, Asa and Salihu Usman, Principal Community Development Inspector, commended the partners.
They applauded the NGO for its kind gesture towards ameliorating the suffering of the downtrodden.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs Abusat Jimoh lauded their benefactor for reaching out to them during this trying time.
The food, she said, would go a long way to reduce the hardship brought by COVID-19 on their means of sustenance.
The benefitting communities include Gbago, Igboroko, Owode-Oja, Okeso, Sholu, Apa, Ipetu, Budo-Aro, Samo, Ogodo, Oniyere, Omole and Irepodun communities in Asa Local Government.
In Kaiama Local Government, Nuku, Tunga-Maje, Tenebo, Gatte and Nanu communities benefitted. (
