Ahead of the Kwara State Local Government elections scheduled for Saturday, September 21, 2024, the Kwara State Police Command has announced several security measures to ensure the safety and smooth conduct of the electoral process.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, the Command stated that a restriction on vehicular movement will be enforced from midnight (12:00 AM) to 6:00 PM on election day. The move is aimed at preventing any form of disruption and maintaining law and order during the election.

While the restriction applies to the general public, exceptions will be made for individuals providing essential services, accredited electoral officials, authorized media personnel, electoral observers, and emergency responders. However, armed security personnel on VIP protection duties are strictly prohibited from escorting their principals to polling stations.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Victor Olaiya, urged all residents to comply with these directives, warning that anyone found violating the movement restrictions will face the full force of the law. The Command also encouraged the public to report any suspicious activity, complaints, or irregularities at polling stations through its emergency lines:

- 0703 206 9501

- 0812 527 5046

- 0803 709 8886

- 0807 825 5661 (SMS or WhatsApp only).

CP Olaiya reaffirmed the police’s commitment to ensuring a peaceful, free, and fair election, calling on residents to cooperate fully with security personnel during this critical civic exercise.

The Kwara State Police Command remains resolute in its dedication to protecting the lives and property of the citizens throughout the election period.
