It took the timely intervention of a passerby and the prompt response of officers of Nigeria police at Budo Nuhu Police Station, Ilorin to save the life of Olayinka Segun Owolabi, a male residence of Ile Alagbede Abutu Oyan in Odo Otin Local Government of Osun State, who chose the far away NAFSAT area along Eiyenkorin area, Ilorin to put an end to his life, blaming hardship.

The incidence, as narrated by the Kwara Police Public Relations Officer, SP Okasanmi Ajayi said a passerby sighted what looked like a man hanging on a tree very close to the main road at NAFSAT area along the police checkpoint, Ilorin.

The man reported the incidence at Budo Nuhu Police station, where some officers immediately set on rescue mission.  They got to the scene on time to loosen the rope around his neck and resuscitated him.  He was then rushed to Tobi Hospital, Taiwo Ilorin. He is said to be responding to treatment.

“On interrogation after regaining consciousness, the man who was later identified as Olayinka Segun  Owolabi  'm'  of  No 54, Ile Alagbede Abutu  Oyan,, Odo -Otin L.G.A Osun  State,  stated that, he was tired of life, having lost  his job, lost both  parents  no help was forthcoming from anywhere without any assurance of the next meal prompted him to decide to end his life” Okasanmi reported.

On the heels of the incidence, Okasanmi said the state Police Commissioner, Tuesday Assayomo advised members of the public, especially parents, guidance and community leaders to be more alert to their responsibilities.

The CP further advised that parents and community leaders should always watch and monitor the activities of their children and wards and to always discharge their duty of care diligently to members of their communities, considering the global economic situation which has no doubt affected negatively the well-being of a large number of the populace.

While frowning at citizens’ consideration of an idea of suicide, he reminded that any “attempt to take one's life, apart from being against God's injunction, is also a crime punishable by law if the offender survives the attempt”.

He promised to always ensure the safety of lives and property of the citizens and warned criminal elements to steer clear of Kwara State, “except the would-be criminals want an accommodation in the Correctional centres”
