In the face of dwindling resources and the desire to promote its technological entrepreneurial culture, the management of the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin says its collaborating with the Federal Institute of Industrial Research, FIIRO, Oshodi to explore and exploit opportunities of shared vision of future changes in technology.
The rector of the institute Dr. Jimoh Abdul disclosed this to newsmen at a media parley on his one-year stewardship in office.
Abdul explains that the in-thing in research is technology entrepreneurship where individuals and institutes manage joint exploration and exploitation, collaboratively and cooperatively toward accomplishing shared goals.
The institution, he said, is set to sign a memorandum of understanding, MOU with FIIRO, next week, to concretize its desire to drive its research efforts to the market.
The poly rector said that his one year in office had witnessed various developments in the institution, adding that the school had also responded to societal challenges and improved its internally generated revenue (IGR).
“The management is committed to improving the IGR by introducing a scheme tagged “#one department-one patentable and commercialisable product”
The scheme, he said, gave birth to various technological inventions which it has commercialised.
He also said that his administration had succeeded in blocking some financial leakages in such areas as school fees collection, payment of certificates and wage bill, adding that N4 million was saved monthly from wage bills.
Some staffers of the Kwara state Polytechnic, Ilorin are currently facing disciplinary actions for alleged certificate and receipt forgery, the institution said. He however did not mention the number of staff involved, but added that his administration had through that improved on its internally generated revenue (IGR).
