The Kwara State Police Command has arrested a 46-year-old man, Isiaka Adeniyi, in connection with an attempted homicide involving a 10-year-old boy, Akeem Nurudeen.
The incident occurred in the Abab Oke-Foma area of Ilorin.
According to a release by the Command's spokesperson, DSP Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, the police at C Division, on the 2nd of July 2024 at about 1800 hrs, received a report from Onidoko Police Post that Akeem was hawking pepper when he was lured into Adeniyi's room under the pretext of a purchase. Once inside, Adeniyi allegedly covered the boy's face with a cloth and attempted to slaughter him with a knife.
The swift intervention of local community members led to Adeniyi's arrest. He was subsequently taken to the police station, and the case has now been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Victor Olaiya, praised the community's prompt action and assured the public that the police will conduct a thorough investigation to ensure justice is served. The Commissioner also reiterated the commitment of the police to the safety and security of all residents in Kwara State.
"The public is urged to remain calm as the investigation continues.
“We urge the public to remain calm as we continue our investigation and assure that the police will leave no stone unturned in ensuring the safety and security of all residents of Kwara State”, the command stated in the release.
