Popular Nollywood Actor Yomi Fabiyi and other supporters as well as family members of embattled Nollywood actor, Olanrewaju Omiyinka, popularly known as Baba Ijesha, on Wednesday, appeared at the Yaba Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State where the hearing of the sexual assault case against the actor is set to commence.

Baba Ijesha has been under fire since April 22, 2021, when the Lagos State Police Command announced his arrest for allegedly sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl in the care of popular comedienne, Adekola Adekanya, otherwise called Princess.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Muyiwa Adejobi, had said there was substantial evidence against the actor as he was caught in the act on Closed Circuit Television.

One of the counsels for Baba Ijesha, Adesina Ogunlana, had said the actor was granted bail by a magistrate but alleged that official of the Lagos State Police Command demanded N500,000 to get the thespian released despite a court order granting him bail.

The industrial action by the Judicial Staff Union of Nigeria had stalled the case but the case is set to commence today as the judicial workers called of their strike last week.

Fabiyi, while speaking with reporters, said, “I am in court because I believe in the rule of law and I have right to come to the court and observe the case.

“The young man is my colleague; I cannot deny him at this stage, I am too refined for that.

“I want to see how the court (hearing) will go because there are so many lacunas, so many things that should have been done.

“I want to see how the rule of law and justice is being served.”
