Mohammed Sani Idiagbon, a former academic staff of University of Ilorin, who rode the storm of sexual harassment when a leaked audio of his purported escapades with a female student went viral in 2016 is dead.

Family sources said that he died in the wee hours of Sunday, while his remains had been buried at the Muslim cemetery in Ilorin.

Idiagbon was the Head of Department of English in the Faculty of Arts of the university in June 2016, when he was accused of sexually harassing a female student, who was simply identified as 'Faith'.

The effect of the audio clip as it rippled on the social media forced the university management to suspend the lecturer while instituting a panel to probe the veracity of the allegations.

Idiagbon was reported to have bolted while his case was pending.

The University’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Kunle Akogun, told a journalist investigating the case at the time, that Dr. Idiagbon resigned after he was suspended and removed as the head of the English department.

He also confirmed that he refused to honor an invitation of the Staff Disciplinary Committee before he chose to resign.

He further stated that the university was investigating the matter and would ensure that the lecturer was duly punished if found guilty of the allegations against him.

In his words, “The university frowns against sexual harassment or any other harassment at that. The university is making necessary investigation and once we are done, the culprit will be brought to book.”

While his case was pending, Dr. Idiagbon surfaced at Kwara State University, Malete as an Adjunct Lecturer. Sources at the university confirmed that he was actually penned down for the post of Associate Professor but, the university management was dissuaded by public outrage.

In his defence of the allegations, Dr Idiagbon told a correspondent that his ordeal was a set-up by his colleagues.

He said his co-workers, who were envious of his success and achievements, were behind the incident. He said, “The allegation is harassment and not rape. It is a conspiracy; a set-up by my colleagues over my rise to stardom"

Idiagbon promised to give a detailed account of what happened in a press conference.

"I will address the media at the appropriate time". He said.

Both his promise to give the  facts of the case and the university's promise that justice would be served in the case were mirage till his death this morning.
